The oil and gas pipeline business started in 1861 with the transportation of oil in cast iron pipes in Pennsylvania, USA. Nearly 150 years later we are seeing significant change in the business, but this change is not so much centred on the engineering but more on legislation, staff and the world economy. This paper presents some of the major changes we are experiencing in the pipeline business and suggests some ways of surviving this change.
