Research on counselling children and young people: a systematic scoping review

Abstract

This review was commissioned by BACP in order to add to the research base in counselling children and young people. It is rigorous in order to be of use to other researchers and accessible to therapists, service managers and others involved in child mental health work. The review looks at a variety of presenting issues in counselling children and young people including behavioural and conduct disorders; emotional problems including anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress; medical illness; school-related issues; self-harming practices and sexual abuse.
