Abstract

As part of the international public art festival MADRID ABIERTO 2004, Madrid, Spain, house-madrid was constructed between the 5th and the 15th of February 2004 in the middle of Paseo de Recoletos next to Plaza de Colón. Bricklaying students from ETEC, Sunderland and the Fundacion Laboral de la Construcción, Madrid have simultaneously constructed and de-constructed house-madrid during the ten days. The two identical 5m high shells were built out of lightweight blocks up to second floor level and juxtaposed with each other in rotational symmetry.
