Notes: From a Distance was an invited, solo exhibition in the two large spaces of the University Gallery. The exhibition received wide coverage in the national press. It was previewed in The Independent, reviewed in the Guardian Guide, no.1 for three consecutive weeks in the See This column (Guargian Guide) and selected for Pick of the Week, (Guardian G2). The work further explored issues of how the past is represented and evidenced in the present. The embodiment and distillation of these concerns was commented on in The Guardian review, which remarked on the 'painterly sensitivity that takes (the work) well beyond cultural nostalgia'. A fold-out card/catalogue with four colour reproductions and an essay by William Varley was produced to accompany the exhibition.
