Although much is already known about how people perceive risks and how these can be mapped, new risks continue to emerge, and how these are processed and mapped may depend on existing risky behaviour and beliefs. This paper investigates attitudes, perceptions and behaviour in relation to three main risks, smoking, avian influenza and alcohol consumption; a questionnaire was compiled to measure attitudes and perceptions, risk estimates, consumption of cigarettes and alcohol and demographic variables.
