This book explores the causes and experiences of, and interventions in homelessness in a range of developing countries. It highlights the characteristics of homeless people and major differences between homelessness in industrialised and developing nations. The work is underpinned by the notion that the current definitions, typologies and theories of homelessness, developed largely by and for industrialised countries, are inappropriate for understanding the situation in developing countries The work draws on an empirical study of homelessness in nine countries as well as bringing together other research and literature on the subject. It is a valuable resource for those studying or working in housing, homelessness or international development.
