Abstract

This work gives a structural operational semantics of selected features of the BPEL4WS (Business Process Execution Language for Web Services) language. Included among the features are: assignment; hierarchical variable scoping and environments; sequential execution; conditional execution; looping; a synchronization primitive; concurrent execution; distributed execution and remote invocation; exception handling; and compensation.
