“Residue” considers the theme of erasure through the making of a series of collages from the physical material removed from an earlier group of works. The fragmentary images of the collages also derive from ‘residues’ or left-overs of various kinds: stains, light traces, redundant machinery, demolition sites, abandoned buildings, old photographs. Forty small (2” x 3”) collages were installed informally, scattered across the walls of the gallery space to suggest an incomplete network.

Notes: This project, at the invitation of A1 Art Space, Nagoya and Nagoya Printworks, continues and expands the range of a sequence of research projects since 1992 that have arisen from discussions with an international network of artists (Germany, Slovakia, Italy, Denmark, India, Korea, Australia) interested in artist-led initiatives and dialogue. It will form part of an international exchange coordinated by Northern Print that will bring distinguished Nagoya-based printmaker Hiroyuki Suzuki to undertake an exhibition and residency in the North East of England. The project is supported by an Arts Council England Grant for the Arts.
