A 3D visualisation of transient magnetic field mapping via finite element simulation for the characterisation of complex defects is presented in this paper. In this work, we analyse the Pulsed Eddy Current (PEC) testing application on detection and characterisation of complex geometry defects, for example angular slots, through the mapping of magnetic field distribution. The investigation is implemented via time-stepping 3D Finite Element Analysis (FEA) with features from the mapping extracted for angular slots characterisation. The results indicate the potential static or dynamic features for complex geometry defect characterisation based on the visualisation and mapping of the magnetic field distribution. It is expected that the simulation and magnetic field distribution will help in sensor (array) design and inverse models for complex geometry characterisation.
