Abstract

This project explores commemoration within the context of a rural community. “Lull” is a site-specific video work made for JMNEWVIEWS which commissioned three works for the village of Haydon Bridge, rural Northumberland to mark the 150th. anniversary of the death of the English Romantic painter John Martin (1789-1854). A ten minute video work made in collaboration with Siân Bowen, was filmed in the church clock tower of the village in which John Martin was born, and was projected 8' x 5' in a former chapel building dating from Martin's lifetime and situated in his birthplace.
