Lean Production has enabled organisations to increase productivity, quality and delivery performance. In the West the late 1970s saw the ‘MRP crusade’ and a strong interest in advanced automation. Japanese companies preferred simple manufacturing technologies and low cost automation managed by Lean systems. The Lean and MRP approaches are sometimes considered to be alternative paragigms. This paper investigates how ERP/MRP can be integrated with Lean Production. The overall system configuration is first considered from a theoretical perspective which is then tested through a case study in a company that manufactures agricultural equipment.
