Abstract

We have developed theoretical and numerical methods to solve for the first time the nonlinear two-fluid Hall-Vinen-Bekharevich-Khalatnikov equations of motion of helium II. We have investigated the configuration of the vortex lines in Taylor-Couette flow. The results are interpreted in two ways. Firstly in terms of quantities which can be observed by measuring the attenuation of second sound and secondly by considering the torque on the outer cylinder. Preliminary results and comparisons with available experiments in the nonlinear regime are encouraging.
