Abstract

Synthetic route selection (SRS) plays an important role before chemical process development (PD) starts. Data, information and knowledge generated/acquired pave the way for selecting a successful route and subsequent PD. Decisions related to SRS are generally taken in a team environment using individual expertise, capabilities and resources available to them. The SELECT criteria provide a systematic method for SRS. However, in that approach the interdependent factors are not clearly elaborated, thus decisions taken based on one criterion may affect the rest negatively. This work analysed the decision making basis of the SELECT criteria. Then, we developed an integrated structure for SRS considering the SELECT criteria and concepts of Quality by Design for improved decision making. Further, software has been developed to implement the framework and further improvements identified.
