Abstract

The classical Recursive Least Squares (RLS) algorithm is used in many adaptive control strategies. Unfortunately, these schemes often require significant signal processing and microprocessor hardware to implement. This can be a problem in cost sensitive systems. For this reason, this paper proposes the application of an alternative technique for the adaptive control of power electronic converter circuits. Specific attention is given to the adaptive control of a dc-dc converter. The method is computationally efficient and based around a Dichotomous Coordinate Descent (DCD) algorithm. The proposed controller uses an adaptive PD+I structure which, alongside the DCD algorithm, offers an effective alternative to a conventional Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controller.
