Ships are subject to wave induced loads that are stochastic in nature. Due to the uncertainties of hydrodynamic actions the use of probabilistic methodologies and their stochastic combinations is deemed necessary for the estimation of the effects on hull girder response. The aim of this paper is to present the basis of a cross-spectral formulation that could be used to assess the combined effects of wave loads on hull girder strength. The methodology accounts for long term probability distributions and considers phase relationships between narrow banded load processes.
