A Celestial Odyssey For Praxis, Biennale 2 Thessaloniki The artists have made a newly commissioned sound work, 'A Celestial Odyssey' which was broadcast city wide from the Celestial Radio a sailing boat covered in 60,000 inch square mirrors forming a glittering sculptural artwork. The broadcast which searches through the dense and turbulent history of Thessaloniki though interviews with historians, architects, protesters, DJ's. Within the utopian ideology of Celestial Radio the broadcast proposes a creative revolution in the city, mixing together interviews with the people of Thessaloniki and evocative music to form an experimental sound work. Featuring classic tracks from Aphrodite’s Child, Lucas Sideras, and Cream, plus new music from Thessaloniki including local musicians Darnakes and Leaf among others. This broadcast takes as inspiration chapters from Greek mythology, specifically the cult of Dionysus and the worship of the Dioscuri, two of the crew who traveled with Jason during his apocryphal journey on the Argo in search of the Golden Fleece. Weaving through the sound work a voice coaxes the celestialnauts as they go on a quest to find the golden era in Thessaloniki’s history. The work explores moments when the city reads as an example of cultural equilibrium and highlights how the manifestation of revolution or celebration has led the way.
