Abstract

Based on a keynote address for a conference titled 'What Do We Tell the Children' held by the Irish Society for the Study of Children's Literature in Dublin, 2010, the piece deals with self-injury among adolescents and the possibilities of the internet and reading for providing information and valuable opportunities to acknowledge negative feelings.
