Abstract

The role of magnetic fields in binary stars is reviewed. It is shown that magnetic effects are fundamentally important in all aspects of the mass transfer process, which determines the evolution and observational properties of these systems. MHD processes are discussed in a wide range of interacting binaries and future areas of importance are outlined.
