Despite heavy investment in health and social care in recent years, the large scale deployment of assisted living technologies and services (ALTS) continue to face significant obstacles, and the lack of sustainable business models is widely regarded as one of the greatest hindrances. Based on a systematic review of previous studies, this paper identifies current trends in digital technologies and how these technologies are used in assisted living. We categorise and analyse these technologies and provide a framework for sustainable business models for a scalable assisted living technologies and services market in digital economy. This will help to reduce pressure on already stretched health and social services in the UK and other economies.
