This paper looks at the LifeWorkArt programme at Newcastle University UK. The paper was written following the workshop ‘Is the ‘Art School’ Relevant to Emerging Practice in a Financial Squeeze?’ presented at the Arts in Society conference in May 2011. It marks a point of reflection in ongoing research into ‘professional development’ and the relationship between the art school and the visual art sector.
