Abstract

This paper describes the methodologies and outcomes of research carried out by the authors to improve the role of rail facilities in Trapani city, which at present produce a negative impact on the urban road transport system. The study suggests the creation of a new suburban rail way station to be connected with the centre (the present station site) by a tram-train service; new additional stops are designed to improve accessibility and it is advised to remove the existing two level crossings for reducing car traffic congestion.
