The UK based Earthquake Engineering Field Investigation Team (EEFIT) conducted a reconnaissance mission to the Padang region of Sumatra in Indonesia, to study the effects of the Mw 7.6 earthquake that occurred on 30th September 2009. The purpose of this mission was to gain insight into how buildings and infrastructure performed during this earthquake and the consequent effects on the local community. As part of the mission, the feasibility of using remote sensing technologies to determine the vulnerability of landslides was assessed. The results of this mission are presented in this paper.
