An effective and informative pan-European transport corridor would contribute towards the European Commission’s policy objective of establishing an integrated trans-European transport network (TEN-T). The objective of this paper is to present a way of developing a Knowledge Base (KB) for pan-European rail freight corridors, using a case study - RETRACK KB - to contribute to the aforesaid EU policy objective. Applying qualitative research, the first stage is to form the philosophy, including the setting of generic nature of information needs and uniform procedures. Applying quantitative methods, the second stage is the design of KB: the design of the technical platform and the system architecture (i.e. the building of the actual platform) and finally, the construction of the website (i.e. the process of feeding data into the KB).
