This paper focuses on anonymous urban spaces with no use or exchange value and argues for the potential of temporary urbanism to transform their perception and enhance their quality. Temporary urbanism will be discussed in the light of a relational approach to space and the assemblages of human and non-human actors. Bourdieu’s concept of habitus will support the role of objects in social space and the creation of a shared language that can elicit new social dynamics and new dispositions towards space. Through empirical research conducted in the outdoor space of social housing blocks in Gateshead (UK), this paper will examine a methodology that enables a process of transformation in anonymous spaces.
