Responding to the galleries tiny space of approximately 1,90 in width and 6 meter in length, I painted most of the gallery walls in an anthracite-dark colour to give it the feeling of a gap-alike-entrance to a wider cave. As within this darkness, 30x40 cm ceramic reliefs in Raku technique appeared on the walls in a mirror-cabinet order. A central Fetish sculpture represents the ephemeral forces of nature. The research in the exhibition was to explore the possibilities of a contemporary but archaic cave with in a modern cityscape. The title refers to the lyrics of Captain Beefhart's psychedelic song "Mirror Man". I call the ceramic reliefs "Mirrors" as they reflect the light due to the lustre-raku glazes and as they are physical impression of myself. This setting obviously refers to Platon's Cave parable, as the mirror man is in search for awareness. This research was searching for the lost spiritual forces in contemporary societies and artworks. Working into a raw material and playing with its alchemical possibilities I explored working with those forces and mirroring them into a public space.
