The paper presents an example illustrating the process of internationalization of higher education in Europe. It summarizes the experience in identifying the framework of the MSc programme in Rail Freight and Logistics within the project RiFLE (Curriculum Development under the LLP/Erasmus programme). Based on the lack of university courses and the existence of staff demands of business in the sector, the team applied the requirements of Bologna Declaration about Higher Education for changing the aim from “academic learning” to acquiring competences and compatible degrees based on the ECTS to design a MSc curriculum framework that would enable flexibility and high academic mobility. The innovative nature of the framework developed is in the use of multi-disciplinary approach offering optional subjects in five business areas structured according to the needs of practice. The results of the RiFLE project could be assessed as contribution to networking of HEIs and establishing strategic partnerships aimed to achieve a significant degree of intra-European internationalisation.
