From University entrepreneurial education to venture creation intentions: The role of autonomous motivation and autonomy support

The main purpose of this paper was to study the psychological factors that lead to the formation of entrepreneurial intentions and the role of entrepreneurial education in the psychological processes that determine students' motivation to engage in entrepreneurial activities inside and outside the University. Following the main tenets of the Theory of Planned Behaviour and Self Determination Theory, Vallerand’s Model and the Trans-Contextual Model we provide evidence that students' autonomous motivation in the University entrepreneurial context influences autonomous motivation in the venture creation context, which in turn influences personal attitude, leading to higher levels of entrepreneurial intentions. Results also confirm the positive effect of students’ autonomy support on perceived autonomy support. As expected, regression analysis shows that students’ perceived autonomy support has a positive influence on students' autonomous motivation to participate in entrepreneurial courses within the University.
