Abstract

This paper finds evidence that streaming/tracking students results in them reporting a higher average level of interest and achieving higher grades in further education Economics. Whilst other factors that determine students' interest and achievement are explicitly allowed for, particular care is taken to account for the distribution of peer group characteristics. The results suggest that similar systematic exploration of peer group effects could be worthwhile in other disciplines.
