Abstract

Analyze the causes and mechanisms of inequality in transition economies of Central and Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States after the disintegration of the USSR. We show that both economic globalization and privatization are strongly associated with within-country rises in inequlaity. Impact of globalization on inequality is negative (positive)at low (high) levels of human capital. Trade integration with EU is correlated with increasing inequality.
