2014 is turning out to be another year of activity in relation to the regulation of gambling, particularly online gambling. This sector is still evolving, and it has not been a decade since the last major reform of gambling law in Great Britain. The Court of Justice of the European Union continues to hear cases on the topic of gambling every year. Meanwhile, both the European Commission and UK Government have been reviewing the operation of current laws and putting forward proposals that can broadly be characterised as either new forms of regulation or the re-regulation of recently deregulated fields. This short note reviews the most recent initiatives at both levels.
