Abstract

SafeCap is an advisory system which operates as a layer above the fixed-block signalling in order to improve track capacity and the operational safety of junctions and stations. It does this through real-time control which projects the current state of the train configuration along with its set of commands into the future. Control software allows the traffic to be quickly stabilised should there be a need to accommodate additional trains, recover from train delays, and, generally, sustain a high rate of train flow when there are limited opportunities for implementing stability margins in a schedule.
