Abstract

The paper proposes a new approach to improve the performance of multiphase switched capacitor converters (SCC). It is based on the use of redundant SCC topologies, which are switched forward and backward. The performance is improved by increasing the efficiency and simultaneous reducing the output current ripple. The SCC is considered as an analog computer that solves the system of linear equations by an iterative method. The SCC output voltage is assumed to be constant. This means that the corresponding system has no solution. It is shown that under this condition, the SCC operating in the no-charge mode solves the system by a least-squares method. This allows finding the average current in each SCC topology and consequently, an analytical expression for the equivalent resistance. The obtained theoretical results agree well with the results of simulations.
