This chapter Is focused on analyzing the railway system as a sum of different components and the result of the combination of all these components. The main idea is to create a hierarchical model and a topdown approach. This means a step by step approach using a multilayer decomposition of the system in different subsystems. The main task of this chapter is to analyze the physical system of railway system which is in charge with the direction and the speed of trains. This system is analyzed starting with a short description of various principles which are mandatory for train movement and railway safety. Based on this main principles the system, in fact the physical system, has to be designed with specific components which are dealing with this principles.
