Abstract

Much research focuses on the buyer-seller taxonomy of relationships. The literature is also replete with research analyzing various mechanisms for mitigating inbound risk; specifically contracting, penalties and vertical integration. But there ha sbeen very little empirical research analyzing the tradeoff problem food buyers employ to address price, quantity, quality and temporal risk on their inbound supply. To begin fill this void, we conduct a case study of Chinese beverage manufacturers and employ non-parametric analysis to test a series of risk management and governance choice hypothesis to better understand how managers manage inbound risk.
