We present a microeconomical model for cattle trade at the level of holdings, using supply-and-demand based equations as basis for cattle movements. We apply this model to a data set covering five years of cattle movement in Finistere (France), comparing simulated outcomes to observed movements by using batch size measurements and potential temporal transmission chain analysis. We find good agreement for models closely calibrated on the data, once high-volume trading nodes such as markets and assembly centres are removed from the data.
