Phase angle, frequency and amplitude of the utility voltage are a critical piece of information for the operation of the grid-connected inverters. In such applications, an accurate and fast tracking of this information is essential to ensure the correct operation of the control system. This paper presents a novel phase-locked-loop (PLL) algorithm suitable for single-phase grid connected systems. The proposed algorithm generates the orthogonal voltage component using a structure based on a programmable cascaded low-pass filter (PCLPF), which possesses the following advantages: simple digital implementation and, therefore, low computational burden; - high filtering capability allowing a satisfactory harmonic distortion rejection-besides, the proposed structure is not affected by the frequency changes. The performance of the proposed PCLPF-PLL algorithm is evaluated by extensive experimental tests, with various utility grid disturbances, such as voltage harmonics, voltage sag, phase jumps and frequency variations to validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
