Open Access padlockePrints

The Newcastle University research output collection, currently available on ePrints, will shortly be moving to a new open repository platform, Figshare. To prepare for the data migration we have paused adding new content to ePrints, and will resume once the new repository is launched. During this time you will continue to have access to ePrints (but no new content will appear). We will share updates here when available.

Abstract

The chapter considers some of the confusions and difficulties that those undertaking research in landscape architecture have with the notion of theory. It argues that many of these problems arise as a consequence of the discipline's relationship to the three great empires of academia: the natural sciences, the social sciences, and the arts and humanities. After a survey of relevant theory from each of these domains, the chapter argues that researchers need to be able to engage with existing theory and to be prepared to find it anywhere.
