Abstract

This paper presents an improved multiple symbols soft-decision metrics for frequency-shift keying signals in high mobility wireless communication circumstance with large Doppler frequency shift and additive impulsive noise, more specifically symmetric α-stabled (SαS) noise. Based on a generalized-likelihood radio (GLR), the approximate metric can be achieved without channel state information, e.g., phase, amplitudes, and noise dispersion parameter. Therefore, it is very powerful for blind signal detection. The performance of the improved multiple symbols metric is compared numerically with the previous multiple symbols metric and the single-symbol soft-decision metric for a turbo-coded system. The considerable gains can be provided by this proposed metrics. © 2013 IEEE.
