Abstract

An effective treatment process for highly acidic wastewater generated from a nitrocellulose manufacturing plant is proposed and investigated in this research. A large quantity of acidic wastewater (the first wash water, FWW) is generated in the nitrocellulose manufacturing processes. The process proposed in this study can recover more than 80% of FWW as process water. In addition, the nutrients (including N, P, Ca, K, S and Mg) in FWW are reclaimed as fertilizers. The process developed in this study has the potential to become an efficient and effective method for the treatment of highly acidic wastewater for the industry.
