Abstract

This paper describes an energy analysis based laser ultrasonic detection technology, with which the aluminum plate sample with artificial round surface-breaking hole defects and the stainless steel material with square recess defects were tested. The ultrasonic signal energy distribution at the positions with different distances from the defect is analyzed in detail, then the energy distribution image in the scanning area is obtained. The experiment results show that the proposed energy analysis based laser ultrasonic detection technology can intuitively and efficiently detect the defect information such as the position, shape, size and etc. of the defects on the tested material, which illustrates that the energy analysis based laser ultrasonic detection technology can effectively detect the surface defects of the samples under test.
