An exploration of women's daily lives in eight communities of four states in south-east Mexico. These are pioneer women, in communities built the forest and mainly difficult of access. The team used surveys, group discussions and life histories to examine what the women saw as their problems and what solutions they suggested. We then wrote the book as accounts of the communities illustrated by life histories. Unexpectedly, we heard much of domestic violence and marital rape, but the women expressed their priorities in terms of income, of public services (lacking or inadequate) and of women's groups and training to work in groups.
