© 2014 Published by Elsevier Ltd. The incorporation of renewable energy sources in the wireless communication network is becoming a more dominant application in Sudan where oil is one of the main sources of electricity. This paper focuses on the optimum size and design of a hybrid power system for powering remote Base Transceiver Station (BTS) sites that are based on the target of minimizing capital and operation costs of system components without compensation of meeting the load demand. Three different system configurations are assessed and compared according to system's efficiency and performance, Cost of Energy (COE) and environmental emissions. This analysis is carried out by HOMER software.
