Visions for a future are often expressed through visualisations of our built environment. Architecture makes these propositions in the temporary form of the pavilion and in the written form of the manifesto. This piece, Manifesto for an Architecture of Atmospheres, uses sound and voice to build a temporary sonic space that explores how we might imagine an atmospheric architecture. It supposes a link between the breath of interior spaces and the atmosphere on a global exterior scale that proposes an interconnectedness of human and environment. With reference to the phrasing of the language of the manifesto, such as the verbs that constitute the call to action ‘must’, ‘can’, ‘shall’, and ‘will’ and ‘I’, and ‘you’ and ‘we’, along with other archival source material, this piece resonates both positively and negatively with historical manifestos and contemporary concerns. It is installed on the speakers that are permanently fixed on the concrete pillars that run along one limit of the outdoor stage area at the Korea House of Culture, Irissee, Donaupark, Vienna. This pavilion was first built as part of, and is one of few remaining buildings of, the Viennese International Garden Show (1964).
