A questionnaire-based survey was carried out to determine the customers' requirements and future expectations of Multi-Physics Simulation Software (MPSS) based on Finite Element method in various applications of power electronics. For this survey, a number of responses were collected from software users in power electronic industry and academia. Based on the survey, the current software features of MPSS are studied, and recent advancements made are ascertained. Also, the drawbacks of current MPSS offerings were analyzed from academic and industrial perspectives. This paper highlights that a significant need to enhance the sophistication of MPSS is expressed by different user groups. It is concluded that the current limitations to MPSS are simulation speed and accuracy and bottlenecks in the software interface. Finally, some suggestions are given to overcome the current drawbacks of MPSS.
