Abstract

© 2017 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc. The growth of Pain Clinics is a recent development. This chapter describes how these Clinics expanded, why anesthesiologists play a prominent role in such Clinics and why psychologists have historically had a major influence in the management of patients in pain. The relative lack of psychiatrists in these Clinics is discussed and the skills that these mental health professionals can offer to patients with chronic pain are delineated.
