This paper focuses on getting optimized ship trajectories innarrow waterways under wind disturbances considering time asan objective function, i.e. the ship tends to sail by taking theoptimized rudder output for minimum time manoeuvre. Nonlinearprogramming (NLP) has been proposed to use withweighted sigmoid function as non-equality constraints tofollow up the reference line if it is necessary. Problems withdifferent boundary conditions and disturbance values have beeninvestigated to justify the effectiveness of the proposed method. The problem regarding the initial value for the start-up of theoptimization process has also been resolved by applying asystematic technique for this method.
