Abstract

© The Electrochemical Society. Oxide-derived (OD) Sn-Pb-Sb, and Cu-Sn alloy catalysts were prepared for electrochemical reduction of CO2 (eCO2R) for formate (HCOO-) and carbon monoxide (CO) production. The morphology, elemental mapping, and electrochemical behavior of the electrocatalysts were probed systematically. The results demonstrate that OD-Sn-Pb-Sb alloy improved the FEHCCO-remarkably from 68% to 91% without any reduction in current density. For eCO2R to CO production, Cu-Sn alloy electrodes were prepared and the results show that Cu-Sn alloy electrode reduces C02 to CO selectively (FE∼91%) at a high current density. The improved eCO2R performance of OD-Sn-Pb-Sb and Cu-Sn electrodes relative to their pristine electrodes could be attributed to local geometric and electronic structural changes.
