It has been established that wave added resistance can significantly impact fuel consumption and sufficient studies have shown that the heave and pitch ship motion components have a clear effect on the wave added resistance. These motions, however, are hard to control. Since the roll motion is to some extent convenient to reduce, the rolling effect on wave added resistance are studied based on numerical simulations using RANSE solvers. The numerical results of wave added resistance and heave, pitch and roll motions of KCS container ship are compared with corresponding experimental data for validation. Then forced rolling motions are included to investigate the rolling effect on wave added resistance.
