The Newcastle University research output collection, currently available on ePrints, will shortly be moving to a new open repository platform, Figshare. To prepare for the data migration we have paused adding new content to ePrints, and will resume once the new repository is launched. During this time you will continue to have access to ePrints (but no new content will appear). We will share updates here when available.

Abstract

A collaborative music and poetry composition commissioned by Newcastle Poetry Festival, 2019, to be premiered at Sage Gateshead on Thursday 2nd May 2019. This new work will use 'The Archive' as its main theme. Archive material (audio and text) from Norwegian fiddler and ethnomusicologist Arne Bjørndal's research visit to the Shetland Islands in 1949, recently discovered by Macdonald at the University of Bergen, Norway, will be one of the main stimuli for this work, and will combine the use of spoken voice, solo fiddle, and recorded composition in live performance.
