In a new production by American director R.B. Schlather, Dr. Zazzo performs the title role in Handel's 1724 opera Tamerlano for the first time, exploring issues of power, performativity, and disguise, while experimenting with ruptures in Baroque opera conventions (spoken dialogue vs. sung recitative, interrupted da capos, quotations from film music, audience interaction).
